Role-Playing Shenanigans

Written by Sarah-Maree

I know, it’s been awhile since I last posted here. Well, time has flown by and I’m back! If you’ve been keeping up with my blogs, you probably have a few questions. If not...well, this’ll be a ‘quick’ recap.

Part I: The Writer

As I said last time, I put all writing on hold while I worked on editing my book, MAD. I’ll be honest; the editing isn’t going well. I’m losing my mind not writing or working on anything else. Besides, I had one major plot hole in the story and each time I fix a chapter, it changes the rest of the story. Basically I keep plugging leaks, some are small and easy to fix, and some are larger and require more thinking and planning. It’s demoralizing to complete a chapter only to go back to it later because I had to change something. The work feels never ending.

Besides the plot holes, I’m also battling with procrastination. Sometimes the excuses are justified: I do have a job. Then I have excuses that don’t always hold up like: I’ve been working all day, I deserve a break and some time to relax. It isn’t that life should be all work and no play, but sometimes...it’s really just an excuse. I’m still whittling away at chapters though and am not giving up despite the very strong desire to set things on fire. (I’ve already picked out the kindling.)

For whatever reason, my brain decided to rebel and start up on a new writing project. Yes, I’m still editing and I haven’t forgotten Positivity Camp. That being said, I have a new writing project that I’m working on - besides this blog which I will start working on again. Now, why am I doing this? Because I need to work on writing I enjoy, or I really will set something on fire.

What is this new project? As you may have guessed from the title, it’s about role-playing games. I’ve gone around to a few friends and asked them for their funny Dungeons & Dragons (or similar role-playing games) stories. I’m talking epic wins or epic fails or anything funny, really. I’ll be sharing some of these stories here occasionally, I may just make a book out of it (an Anthology). Feel free to comment with a funny story of your own or with a title idea.

That’s basically all that’s new with the writing. I’m still editing, but I’m writing again.

Part II: The Crafter

Ha! As if I’ve had time for crafting! Oh, I crack myself up. Don’t get me wrong, I want to do it, I just have too much going on right now. The Artist Fair is Saturday July 14th at the library in downtown Fort Wayne. I’ll be there early setting up, but it goes from 11am to 3pm.

Part III: The Gamer

Yeah, surprisingly I haven’t been gaming much. I mean, I’m surprised I haven’t been gaming more. Usually that is my go-to for procrastination. I used to be online every day, now I’m lucky if I hop on VR once a week. With everything I have going, I don’t know that this will be changing much or at least not any time soon.

Well, that’s all that’s new with me. Next Friday will have a short D&D type story and possibly an update on my MAD edits. I’m currently on chapter 20. Hopefully I can make it through these final ‘10’ chapters soon! Yes, I said ‘10’ because I keep breaking up chapters which adds to my final count. *sigh

On that happy note, see you in a week!
