This week’s dark tale looks at why Bards should do the talking, and Knights should do the fighting and ONLY the fighting. When it comes to speaking, Bards are meant to have high Charisma. That isn’t to say a Knight can’t have high Charisma, it’s just that in Tillek’s case…he didn’t.
As told by Nick Klein - Zeno (Ranger / Elf Princess)
Dungeons & Dragons
Zeno, a ranger elf with a bad temper, glared at the messenger. With only a year left to live, thanks to a poisoned message his guild had sent her way from some unknown source, she was more irate than usual. “I want to know who sent me this poisoned message tube!” she demanded indignantly, tossing part of the tube at the man. Luckily, she was pretty enough (and had high enough charisma) that the messenger took no offense.
Tillek did his best to hold back from saying anything to either offend Zeno or to upset the messenger. Their small band had been through a lot, and he wanted answers and justice. He carried with him in a magical pouch that, among other things, held the severed head of one of the elders from his master’s and Zeno’s village. A messenger had delivered it and run off before he or anyone else could learn who had sent it. Worse, they didn’t know the fate of their village.
“Lord Garnish wouldn’t do this!” the man said as he looked over the tube. “Someone must’ve tampered with it.”
Tillek exchanged glances with Kassandra, the groups bard and the woman under his protection. She nodded grimly, and Tillek pulled out the box with the severed head from his bag of holding.
“Would Lord Garnish do this?” he demanded. The messenger took one look and swooned. As he struggled to keep from fainting, another messenger slipped out of the building.
“That wasn’t what I had in mind,” Kassandra said, flipping the lid closed on the box. The messenger fainted. She sighed. “We need to go, someone snuck out the back. He’ll likely be back with the city guard.”
Tillek frowned, uncertain of how that hadn’t been what Kassandra had meant for him to do. He shrugged and followed her and the others out.
“I’d of done the same thing,” Zeno said boldly as they left. Beside her, Alduin and Karliah nodded their agreement. The words gave Tillek little comfort.
