New Year’s Resolutions 2021

Written by Sarah-Maree

Take three. That’s right, I’ve tried writing this blog three times already. Each time I started it, it got more and more depressing. I should have expected as much. I mean, traditionally, New Year’s Resolutions are meant to be inspiring, and after 2020, it hasn’t been easy to feel inspired. That’s partially why I didn’t make any for 2021. That is, until someone challenged me on it.

I’m a real sucker for challenges. And this pandemic is a real challenge, particularly if you’re playing it as safe as emotionally non-compromising as possible. So, this blog is a challenge, not to my readers, unless you feel like being challenged, but to myself. I can handle a few challenges for this year, and so here they are.

  1. Finish Ryac and The Dark Mage (preferably finish to the point of publishing it, but don’t push it)
  2. Finish final edit of MAD and get it ready to publish (seriously, it’s been completed for a full year or more. Just finish the d@#^ thing)
  3. Complete just 1 category for book crafting (one of them is less than 30 books, so do that one)
  4. Eat food from 3 restaurants I haven’t tried before (delivery counts! So does curbside pickup! And 3 is the minimum. Don’t you want more than the minimum pieces of flair?)
  5. Go somewhere new (last year you went to a park and saw an amazing waterfall. Do something like that again. Just maybe, find a park with fewer people? Or…an abandoned place?)
  6. That’s it for now. Let’s not get too carried away.

No, seriously, five goals is plenty for a full year. And as daunting as they may look to the outside world, mostly with the writing goals, they’re well within my capability of doing. On top of that, completing two books in one year would be hella awesome. I won’t have much to complain about when I pull that off. It’s nearly February, but I’ve already started on goal number 1. Plus, next month, I can work on those pieces of flair, er…I mean those new foods to try. My husband will be all in for that.

The only goal I have here that is going to be on the backburner for a while is the travel one. I can easily start planning for that now. Last year’s excursion was poorly planned. No food figured out. No route. No potty break stops planned. Parking. Etc. Plus, this year I’ll need to find a place to go to first, which can be fun to research. Since I refuse to be out in the cold, the main drawback is waiting on the weather to warm up.

One year is a lot of time. Despite last year’s shenanigans and this year’s early start on shenanigans, I think the outlook for 2021 is pretty good. What do you think? Do you have any goals for 2021 or are you playing it safe after being burned by the dumpster fire last year?

May your adventures be many and your inspiration be endless!
