Don't Stress It

Written by Sarah-Maree

I know I usually talk about writing, but I feel like this topic applies to so many areas of life! I’m talking about ambitions, dreams, and goals. Sometimes they can feel so unattainable. To put it in terms of writing, imagine your goal is to write a novel, a 150,000 word novel. That’s a lot of words to get down on paper! (To put it into perspective, this paragraph is 72 words.)

Writer’s aren’t the only ones with daunting tasks. Entrepreneurs trying to sell their product have it rough too. Not to mention artists looking to fill a gallery with their work. Whatever your goal, the best advice that I have heard on achieving it is this: Take it one day at a time and don’t stress it.

If you’re a writer, write a page a day. An entrepreneur? Make a new contact a day. An artist? A sketch a day. After a week, a writer could have a chapter. The entrepreneur could have seven new contacts, new sales, and new leads. An artist could go from one sketch to a completed painting in a week. It’s the simple goals that work, but when the small goals add up…well, you get the picture.

If you’re like me and have that unachievable dream, just remember to take it a day at a time, and don’t stress it. Trying to accomplish too much will likely lead to feeling burnt out, or worse, hating the very thing you loved doing. By taking it a step at a time, you'll get there, and you’ll see the progress you’ve made making the next day a little less daunting.
