NaNoWriMo - Week 3 Progress

Written by Sarah-Maree

Friday is here again. I know it’s the weekend, but the enthusiasm for this project is draining. I’m not sure why writers attempt NaNoWriMo. As I’ve said before, this has been my first year making the attempt, and I don’t like it.

What changed? Life butted in at one point, and I struggled to flip the switch back to writing daily. (To be fair, I do write daily. Each Monday I write upwards of 1,800 words. I just don’t count work related writing. It feels like cheating to me since it isn’t related to what I want to do. Last week I tried writing a chapter on one day and wound up staring at the computer screen. After that, I inevitably found my way onto the internet and did the endless scroll. I’m not proud of that, but it did give me more motivation to work on tackling what was holding me back – an outline.

Once I had the outline, I slacked off, and here we are! Week three, which started 4,059 words in the hole. This week has been better, and while I don't think I'll reach my goal of 26,668 word total for week three of NaNoWrimo, I can only hope that outline keeps me on task for the following weeks.Speaking of which, my current word count is 13,515. Between today and tomorrow, I still have 13,153 words to write if I want to catch up. As you can imagine, that number weighs on me heavily.

To you other writers out there, if you’re attempting NaNoWriMo, I hope you are having better luck at time management. It isn’t easy, but no matter how far you get, the progress will still be waiting for you at the end of the month. May your progress be great and your procrastination productive! See you all next week for another update.
